GUNS: I’m a gun owner, but like the vast majority of Americans, I support stricter gun control laws including: expanded background checks, closing the gun show loophole, a nationwide ban on high capacity magazines, and the assault weapons ban.
CARPETBAGGERS &PARACHUTE CANDIDATES: #CA04 is currently represented in Washington by Tom McClintock, who's never lived here, and Democrat Brynne Kennedy recently moved into the district strictly to run for office. I'll sponsor a bill which mandates no sitting Congressperson may represent a district in which they do not currently reside, and no one may seek to represent a district which they have not been a legal resident of for at least one year prior to running.
ELIMINATE MEDICAL DEBT: I enthusiastically support Senator Sanders’ reasonable proposal.
EXPAND SOCIAL SECURITY: Social Security, because it's funded by the payroll tax, not the U.S. Treasury, has not contributed one nickel to our deficit. We need to expand it, not cut it.
FREE PUBLIC COLLEGES/CANCEL STUDENT DEBT: I support Bernie’s position, which will be fully paid for by a small tax on Wall Street.
MONEY IN POLITICS: Citizens United was a ruinous decision which must be overturned. I support Bernie’s plan to get corporate money out of politics, and I will never solicit or accept contributions from PAC's, corporations or "dark money" interests.
MILITARY & VETERANS:We spend far more on defense than any other country in the world. We've wasted trillions and lost many of our bravest on endless wars as a result of this misguided approach to our defense. I support a complete overhaul of military spending. I also fully support Bernie's commitment to Honor our Veterans.
FOREIGN AFFAIRS: The United States has no business intervening in the affairs of another nation until, or unless, human rights are being violated, and then I believe we have an obligation to intervene.
HOUSING: I believe in, and will fight to implement a national rent control standard, which will create a national cap on annual rent increases. I also support the repeal of the Faircloth Amendment, which will allow the construction of new public housing, because currently HUD can't create new public housing units unless it demolishes or disposes of others, resulting in no net gain. Simply put; I enthusiastically support Senator Sanders' Housing For All proposal.
